The perfect job

Clock moving fast

As usual, I’m up early this morning to read before the rest of my family wakes up. One book I read on repeat is Baltasar Gracián’s The Pocket Oracle and Art of Prudence. I think it’s possibly my favourite non-fiction book.

I read aphorism number 204 today, which includes these lines:

A job that demands complete dedication, has fixed hours and is repetitive is intolerable; better is one which is free from boredom and which combines variety and importance, because change is refreshing. The best are those where dependency on others is minimal. The worst, one where you are held to account, both in this world and the next.

As someone who didn’t know anything other than full-time education or employment until last year (when I became a consultant) I think that I should get a large poster made of this and put it on the wall in front of my desk.
