There is a road from the eye to the heart that does not go through the intellect.

Stupidity does not consist in being without ideas. Such stupidity would be the sweet, blissful stupidity of animals, molluscs and the gods. Human Stupidity consists in having lots of ideas, but stupid ones. Stupid ideas, with banners, hymns, loudspeakers and even tanks and flame-throwers as their instruments of persuasion, constitute the refined and the only really terrifying form of Stupidity.

It is desirable at times for ideas to possess a certain roughness, like drawings on heavy-grain paper. Thoughts having this quality are most likely to match the texture of actual experience.

We are no more responsible for the evil thoughts which pass through our minds, than a scarecrow for the birds which fly over the seed-plot he has to guard; the sole responsibility in each case is to prevent them from settling.

Thinking always clusters. That happens in groups, but more importantly, it happens over time. The movement of thought is sometimes slow and can sometimes even get stuck. A person with an idea worth pursuing will give rise to an interaction chain in time, held together in comparable chains of contributors, lurkers and opponents.
